If you love the 1960s fashion, the later Mod look, and cult TV series The Prisoner, you are going to love this package!
It comprises:
1. A vintage 1960s Orange wool & Sheepskin fur trim hood cape with arm slits value £150
2. A vintage 1960s Kitty Copeland short sleeve dress in orange and white value £200
3. A vintage jacket/blazer in black and white piping by Laura Ashley with polka dot lining
dating from c 2007 but obviously with that Mod/1960s/Prisoner vibe value £120
4. A pair of Oakley Obsessed sunglasses in 1960s retro white value £150
5. A pair Oasis retro black and white zip gloves fine cut fingers value £35
6. A 1980s does 1960s designer geometric scarf by Monique Martin value £25
7. Arkitect Breton look striped top 3/4 length sleeves value £20 (never worn apart from to model)
8. Seeburger high quality faux fur white small peak cap value £40 (unworn apart from shoot)
So that is over £700 worth, BUT you care also welcome IF you like them/sizes are good to the Zara tailored beige pants (size UK 10) £27.99 current stock just worn for shoot, and the off white white boots (not quite 1960s but not too bad, size UK 6 shoe size leather (worth about £50 at least only worn for shoot). If the shoe size not good for you, don't worry, I have surprise options I can put in instead so don't have them for sake of it. And, you will get some lovely little surprise extras too value £50-£100 ! I do that with every purchase.1. The wool cape is from the 1960s and has been WELL loved, so does have some flaws, There are a few small holes in the lining, and it's been 'home' repaired too lining and a seam on the arm slit. Not visibly noticeable. But to reline it and sort these issues would add a fair amount on to the cost, so I'd have no issues wearing it as is . But colour wise it is such a vivid orange it looks so fresh, and often these brightly coloured vintage pieces are badly faded in parts. Not this one, despite the flaws. The fur trim hood is dyed orange sheepskin fur. If this were in perfect condition, you'd be looking at way over £500 just for that. I wore it twice and got so many compliments!
2. Kitty Copeland linen dress is labelled a UK 14, but that's a vintage sizing it is actually a UK size 10. I am a size UK 8 and it is ok on me too with a padded bra.
But think, despite these stated sizes on the dress, I'd say perfect fit would be a size UK 10.
Hips 37 1/2/ to 39 inches
Bust 35 to 37 inches
It has braid white 'arrows' across the front and fabric covered buttons. May be a touch of bleeding buy it doesn't notice; again it is so bright and vivid the dress and again no fading, that it doesn't notice. The dress is a lovely real linen; so much better than 60s synthetics. Kitty Copeland was creating designs from 1930s through to late 1970s mainly sold through high end department stores. The 1950s and 1960s their heyday in terms of quality and style. I'd ask £400 for this dress if it weren't for the very faint orange bleeding into the white. Assume caused by laundering and really a dress like this should be dry cleaned. But don't let it put you off this is barely noticeable. I am not even sure if it wasn't made like this tbh. I have worn a few times for 60s & vintage events always gets compliments too.3. The Laura Ashley jacket similarly is fine for a UK size 8 to 10. It has lovely lining btw black with white polka dots. So very similar this jacket to the Tommy Hilfiger one in the 'Mods' shoot in the 'Fashion Rocks' supplement by Steven Meisel 2007 (see video) so we assume around same time. Gorgeous quality blazer in perfect condition and so Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner.
4. A great 1960s look can be seriously compromised by cheap tacky sunglasses. So, I sources these Oakley 'Obsessed' ones, and they are very high quality retail c £150 their sunglasses; often more. Very retro 60s in the white obviously
5. These Oasis vintage black and white leather gloves with the wrist zip are absolutely stunning and I have a pair myself get so many compliments as they are very finely cut like vintage gloves and beautiful leather, in black with white. be fine for a size 6 or 7.
6. Monique Martin scarfs were very sought after in the 1980s, especially the geometric designs. The orange on it is not quite as bright as the rest of the outfit but because of the black white and beige it still works. And brings the beige tailored pants into play (which the actresses wore similar in The Prisoner with their orange breton style tops)
7. Arkitect is just a high st type brand but this is a lovely top again good for size UK 10, in a rayon. Ideal for that look of the girls in The cult tv series The Prisoner.
8. The cap by Seeburger, a quality German hatter, is gorgeous it is dense pile very soft and white, and it has the small peak, which is much more like the ones in The Prisoner. Often for me the caps you see meant to be 60s are large peaks and not quite right for the Mod look, which were virtually peaked berets.
The Prisoner was one of the best tv series ever made. Patrick McGoohan who starred , it was his pet project warning of the dangers of loss of individual identity , surveillance etc....so very apt now! He was a spy who resigned and then he wakes up having been drugged in a surreal village. Is he really there or is it drug induced as they pry him for secrets? 'The Village' is a real place Port Meirion in North Wales, like a little model Italian village. You can stay in rooms there, I must go at some point looks fab! The song that is my 'spirit of the age and garment' however comes from the early 1980s, by Mod/psych band The Times, about the show & McGoohan (who was so dashing and handsome in that and 'Danger Man' imho !). If you haven't seen The Prisoner make sure you do. At that time it was shown in the wrong order of episodes making the plot even more trippy ! Visually and theme wise ist is so far ahead of its time. Highly recommend.
Anyway, if you are already a fan, this 'anti capsule' (hate that drab minimalist boredomsville concept) capsule wardrobe! Orange in the 60s came in bit time 1966-67 and lasted until 1969. At first the vivid orange colour was worn with black and/or white accessories (see video) , and then with other primary colours too; so there is that versatility there if you have other 60s colours/styles. So this is a fab collection to mix and match with all your other stuff, or wear in a variety of ways as is. So if you are a Mod, or love 60s style and music or events, this is a great set. So eg if you are going to Goodwood Revival this is fine for the last year which is 1966. That is when The Prisoner was made, and the orange colour came bang into fashion. The black and white had come a year before with Bridget Riley influences, and again lasted a good 4 years in vogue.
So not all 1960s but the two main items are, and this is the way to mix and match vintage and retro ie quality nice and unusual pieces. A big Mod Revival is brewing....are you ready?
Please note. 'Rover' is not included !
