Vintage Mansfield fit flare mutton sleeves coat royal blue cobalt cashmere wool black velvet Edwardian riding mistress 1980s Princess Diana

Incredible royal or cobalt blue fit and flare coat by Mansfield - Frank Russell 'King of Coats' label. It has the on trend leg of mutton sleeves, and shoulder pads that make such a
dramatic statement and so flattering a shape. Will fit an 8- 10 UK size, though a small 12 may get away with it email me for precise measurement.

It is a dreamy romantic item and I have teamed it with a velvet tam o'shanter hat which Princess Diana wore a lot, as well as the colour combo of blue and black which ensured it stayed in fashion for a number of years. Many designers at this time used the colour combo and thus we think this dates from c 1983 when it began. For some historical context New Order's 'Blue Monday' hit the charts, The Eurythmics sang Cool Blue. In horse racing, history was made in the Cheltenham Gold Cup  as Michael Dickinson's Bregawn led his first 5 home ; and Jenny Pitman became the first lady trainer to win the Grand National at Aintree. You may have worn this coat to the races as it has an equestrian feel, that Edwardian riding mistress look which the guys love so much! Or if your football team was blues Everton they won the FA Cup & First Division within a couple of years, and blues Chelsea & Birmingham City both took their place back in the top flight winning promotion between the 1983-86 seasons when this coat was the height of fashion, and many a footballer's 'wag' wore the Mansfield label during the 1980s.

It is a beautiful fabric, richer blue than it appears in the photos as I lighten to show deatils; cashmere & wool with rich black velvet & lovely velvet covered buttons.

Flirty & fun length just below knee it whips round just enough to give it a little drama, and a lot of glamour & style.
Will cause a sensation when you wear!
