Vintage Blue Velvet 1950s dress by Elmoor Made UK flared skirt quite full and lovely pleats from the drop waist, can be worn with a petticoat but not quite a full circle. It has velvet covered buttons on the front and a delightful half belt on the rear. 
It's not a dark navy blue , rather a soft midnight blue

"She wore blue velvet
Bluer than velvet was the night
Softer than satin was the light
From the stars"

There were numerous versions of the song throughout the 1950s, though the best known now is the Bobby Vinton version 1963. Other notable versions in the 50s were The Clovers The Statues and Tony Bennett,

So it is so romantic if you love the fifties to have an actual blue velvet number! Especially one this unusual and by Elmoor who were very high end look thigh relatively affordable if you saved. They were based in Great Portland st and supplied all the top boutiques in Mayfair and dept stores Oxford st etc and their advertising was about getting the look of a millionairess. 


The size of the dress is a UK 8 

It is in very good vintage condition no serious flaws at all, though you can tell it's of an age. But that shouldn't make anyone hesitate when this is so special elegant and very wearable
