Vintage 1980s Thierry Mugler silk velvet dress with a V neck and ridges upper arms, and a delightful kick pleated area in front that is a nod to the 1930s, which was a big in inspiration to Mugler as well as the 40s & 50s.
I have a bevy of gorgeous 1980s designer dresses atm so this is one of five hence the parody video of 'Addicted to Love' by Robert Palmer as they all have a definite 1980s iconic glamour to them check the other 4 dresses too!
Slightly below knee length on me I am 5ft 5 ins. And it is too big for me sadly so difficult for me to model. It is a UK size 12 I would say. It is a 1980s piece, so the marked size 40 certainly translated to a size 12 then, though you wouldn't want to be any bigger, and it would also be ideal for a UK size 10 who is tall & broad shouldered. Iam 5ft 5 ins and it comes to just below the knee on me but not quite mid calf.
It is in relatively good condition, though there are some marks on the silk velvet in places, but those that love silk velvet are generally not bothered by such I know I am not. You sometimes get marks from ironing (NEVER do it without an intervening cloth!) or drink spillages for eg. I think most of the slight marks (you can only see them when the light catches them) are likely drink spillages and do not appear to be removable with light attempt. Anyway, I have reflected this in the price if it was perfect I'd have no hesitation asking £500 for it. So this is your chance for an 'entry level' Mugler velvet dress, which cost a fortune back in the 1980s they were his big thing that sleek sensual silk velvet glamour, and this one has a bit of slink to it as well as his trade mark sculpted structure.
So for eg, if you are a Goth girl who certainly doesn't mind a few little marks on their velvets, and love Mugler but can't usually get chance to get near one cost wise, this is your chance! Yes now imagine wearing this to take the floor to the Sisters of Mercy! Yeah I love them too seen them a few times over the years, and I like newer bands with a bit of dark fashion glamour too like She Passed Away I have also seen live and they do attract a fashion crowd too so this is the ideal for that. If it fit me better I would certainly keep and wear to such events.
If that scene isn't your thing, well it is certainly a gorgeous dress to wear out on a date to somewhere smart for cocktails too, and comfortable enough to slink up to the bar in the hotel and be that dark mysterious lady with 80s does 30s vibes. Back in the day you'd have maybe sauntered over to the piano player and asked him to play Blue Velvet....or Black Velvet and made that little boy smile....or maybe you're a siren yourself and want the perfect understated but slightly dynamic dress for your microphone stint at the jazz club....
