Swansdown were renowned for their tailoring and turn back cuffs throughout the 40s and 50s but it is rare to find such an outstanding pristine piece. It is as new with no flaws or imperfections given its age.
The worsted on this has a slight silvery sheen to it, being made up of corded look fabric black and silver grey. It is simply stunning, and has gold and black buttons all secure all original and loops all intact and strong. Be warned however that they take a while to do up! But when on it fits like a glove to any size UK 8-10 figure. A small 12 may also fit into it. It has the trademark turnback cuffs too. And beautifully placed pockets above the breast. It has padded shoulders typical of the 40s but not too exagerated. So we would place it late 40s early 50s. Will look great with a 40s a line skirt, pencil skirt , full circle skirt a la Dior New Look, or indeed in a contemporay way with skinny black toursers and boots. So it is very versatile.
The price is relatively high because of the pristine condition and trsength of structure. Many vintage items are delicate but this is a strong fine piece like new. 100% virgin wool Miron Worsted styled by Swansdown "The Finest Wool You Can Put On Your Back" was their slogan. You will never buy a finer ladies tailored jacket.
Please note the last three images are not the jacket but period Swansdown ads of similar styles .
