A magnificent stylish coat from Austin Reed. Renowned for gentlemen's quality tailoring since 1900, Austin Reed launched in to Ladies Wear in the 1980s and this was one of their most fabulous pieces. Ideal versatility at that time. For the new career girls to give them we mean business too tailored style presence in the city but with that new romantic Sloane Ranger feminine swagger, a chilly day at Kempton or Sandown races to cheer on Desert Orchid, but equally ideal for hanging out with the the revival rockabilly set on the King's Rd. This coat is a homage to 1950s style with the gorgeous fit and flare tailoring (it's a size 12 so a bit big for me to model well), the high quality faux fur collar, the turnback 50s cit cuffs, and even the buttons are 1950s style. So think back to when The Stray Cats the Cramps and the Polecats were rocking the bars and the KIng's rd cadillacs were pulling up outside The Garage, and the quiffed sharply dressed guys were hanging at Johnson's, and the girls had these fit and flare coats over their circle dresses. It is so exquisitely made this coat you have to look at the label before realising it's not a fifties coat, unlike many modern repro brands. The wool twill is sturdy and warm and again this is a coat that has decades left in it, in excellent condition.
And just as classic versatile & beautiful for now as it was back then.
It is a soft dark what they call 'old navy' blue , a popular suit colour 19th and early 20th century because you could wear with navy black blue...and with the rich pale tan faux fur collar brown too! So again versatile in that respect.
