Stunning piece by the then luxury dept store Nordstrom and I'd date this dress to around their first Californian store c 1978, though could be up to 1982.

It's that period between the influence of the 1950s and English New Romantics of Sloane st meets the Blitz club.
 
So very versatile as suitable for a 1950s look, or the new wave/new romantic revival. Very sexy it is with the ruched elasticated back, and boned in the front.

Very elegant and perfect for a stroll along the promenade, for al fresco dining at a smart restaurant/bar summer, a picnic in the park, afternoon trip to a stately home, or a trip to the races, but also a cool nightclub or festival; such a gorgeous dress to twirl in.  In fact wear it anywhere but of course a wedding as you really will steal the grooms heart....unless of course you intend that breach of traditional etiquette which is perfectly possible for the vampish femme fatale who ends up with this piece!
